Doll museum Dabas-Sári

The surroundings of the traditional folk house in Sári are being enriched with another heritage-inspired building, for which the municipality of Dabas commissioned our company to prepare the interior design plans. The building itself is a renovated “cube house” transformed into an exhibition space dedicated to displaying dolls. The exhibition will house the traditional folk costume doll collection created and preserved by Mráz Mátyásné.

Creating an atmosphere inspired by folk traditions and motifs was a key aspect of the design process. This is reflected in elements such as the traditional rolled-texture walls, ceramic and woven hanging decorations, and wooden chairs recalling historical rural interiors. The ribbed wooden surfaces and the ribbed reception desk visually reference the pleated skirts of traditional folk costumes, giving the interior a unique identity. The walls and furniture finishes were intentionally kept light and neutral, allowing the colorful traditional garments of the dolls to become the focal point of the space.

The dolls were placed into glass display cabinets to protect them from dust. The vitrines positioned along the walls feature mirrored back panels, allowing visitors to observe the detailed craftsmanship and intricate clothing designs from multiple angles, including the back side of the costumes.
