Family house Szalkszentmárton

Two-story family house on a uniquely shaped multifunctional site in Szalkszentmárton.

The outer area of Szalkszentmárton is characterized by a slightly rural, small-town atmosphere. During the design process, the goal was to create a building that would meet the client’s needs while also responding appropriately to the surrounding buildings and the multifunctional nature of the site. At the time of planning, several existing buildings were already located on the property, and an industrial building was also nearing the final stage of design development. The clients intended to create a modern long-term family home suitable for a family with two children.

When organizing the functions, it was important to establish openness toward the garden, create a connection with the planned industrial building, and at the same time provide a slightly more enclosed arrival experience from the street side. The arrival sequence begins with a semi-covered entrance terrace leading into the foyer. The relationship between the living room and dining area creates a spacious interior environment, further enhanced by the large openings toward the terrace and garden.

The kitchen and the more private functions — such as the living area and guest room — are easily accessible while still maintaining appropriate separation. The upper floor was primarily designed for the children, accommodating two bedrooms together with their associated bathroom, restroom, and storage spaces.

Although the planned building introduces a contemporary architectural character to its surroundings, it was intentionally designed to avoid appearing overly dominant or intrusive. In both massing and material usage, we applied restrained and familiar architectural elements to maintain harmony with the environment.
