Weekend house

The holiday home we designed in Balatonvilágos was not planned for a typical resort area, but rather for one of the town’s traditional residential neighborhoods. Therefore, during the design process, we carefully considered the local architectural character and streetscape. Initially, the client approached us with the idea of building a minimalist structure with a flat roof. However, after examining the local regulations and the architectural context of the settlement, it became immediately clear that a purely flat-roofed building would not fit into the traditional local environment. From that point on, we developed a concept that combined the flat-roofed architectural mass with the traditional pitched-roof form. As a result, the simple rectangular building volume covered by a pitched roof is surrounded by functional canopy elements.

The building façade remains closed toward the street and the nearby motorway, ensuring privacy and quietness for those relaxing inside. Toward the garden, however, the house opens up at several points through large sliding glass surfaces, allowing the spacious covered terrace to function as a natural extension of the living area during the summer months.

In terms of the floor plan, the individual functions are clearly separated. The bedrooms and bathrooms are arranged along one side of the building, while the living and dining areas operate as one large open space, with the kitchen connected in a slightly more separated layout.
